Periodontology
Periodontology - what does this section of dentistry do?
Simply put, periodontics is a section that deals with all types of periodontal disease. So what is periodontium? This term can be used to describe all tissues that hold teeth in the right place, e.g. gums or periosteum.
In Atelier Uśmiechu, we treat all types of periodontal diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis. Like any disease, they also have their cause. In the case of periodontal diseases, their main reason is improper oral hygiene or its complete absence.
There is no vacation from brushing your teeth
Remember the words of our Mrs. Anita “There is no vacation from brushing your teeth”
Teeth should be brushed for a minimum of 2 minutes, and research shows that we spend only 46 seconds on these activities, which results in the build-up of bacterial plaque, which after some time turns into tartar, which is the biggest enemy of oral cavity. As tartar is nothing but bacteria in our mouth, it is a source of toxins and thus causes periodontitis.
Symptoms of periodontal disease
If you notice prolonged bleeding from gums, sensitivity to sweet and salty, slightly moving teeth, unfortunately you experience the symptoms of periodontal disease. Then you should go to a dental office specializing in this type of disease as soon as possible. A symptom of periodontal disease is also very often an odor from the mouth. If this is not the fault of a packet of eaten chips, and the bad smell accompanies you for a long time, it can be a sign of periodontal disease. Like most oral diseases, periodontal disease is also caused by a lack of proper oral hygiene. Our teeth will not be beautiful themselves, they will not shine, we must help them in this. Think that every 2 minutes spent on brushing your teeth, plus follow-up visits to Atelier Uśmiechu, is your investment. You invest in yourself, and it will certainly facilitate many matters in your personal and professional life.
Causes of the disease
Sometimes periodontal disease, or oral disease in general, can be caused by taking certain medications, for example for epilepsy or cardiovascular disease. A poor diet low in vitamins, smoking cigarettes, tartar and plaque can also have a negative effect.
During the first visit to Atelier Uśmiechu, if our dentist, specialist in conservative dentistry, suspects the possibility of periodontal disease, you will also be referred in our office for a visit to a periodontist.
When to go to a periodontist?
We should visit a periodontist immediately if we notice bleeding when brushing our teeth. Bleeding and red gums should be a warning to us. Also, don’t underestimate the exposed dental necks, unstable teeth, high sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks, as well as unpleasant smell from the mouth. The sooner we take action and report to a specialist periodontist, the greater the chance that our teeth will be protected against falling out.
